Yes, that’s a good alternative. I actually used to do it myself before going full NixOS. Also I kind of missed the whole Anduril drama. I’ll see what it’s about. Been a while that I’ve wanted to try out Guix anyway.

This is why I use NixOS

Ubuntu for many years, then back to Windows, then Arch for a year and now NixOS for about 1.5 years

Why not man pages though? That’s a very fast way of finding answers.

My goal is to bypass local censorship on university computers that don’t allow running any executables except those provided by the administrator. And I’m trying to help professors who aren’t particularly tech-savvy, so a webproxy is actually still a better option.

A browser inside a docker is a very viable solution, however my VPS is super small, so I don’t have resources for that unfortunately.

Close to invidious but not specific to any particular site. A page that allows to open other pages through it, like a browser inside a web page except it’s only for opening a website and has no other browser functionality. Here’s a proprietary example: croxyproxy.com

Oh that’s cool! I don’t meet people using Guix often. Could you tell me about your experience? Why have you chosen it? Are there enough packages? How can Guix be compared to NixOS (if you’ve used the latter)?

This! I’ve got 7 machines running NixOS already and using Linux on so many machines is only manageable with the reproducibility NixOS provides. Whenever I lay my hands on a new server, PC, laptop, tablet or phone, I just add a few lines for it in my config, run a single nixos-anywhere command and it’s good to go. Syncing changes is also just two commands: git pull && nh os switch. Been using NixOS for a year and a half and it still can’st stop to amaze me
