Damn. What’s happening over at stability? Emad was a pretty big face for the company.

But losing lead researchers, the CEO, what else?

Looking in Reddit’s stable Diffusion subreddit, seens like they suspect SD3 may not be free or downloadable? Like maybe investors are demanding more commercialization of their models, and Emad didn’t want to deal with that?

But also Emad seems like he’s up to something interesting. He mentions he still owns shares that give him majority vote at stability.

SD3 not being free would be so sad! OMG. It solves all my major issues with Stable Diffusion (which are pretty much the same with all the major competitors).

I just want to have reliable text generation and better control over where subjects are! (Without having to delve into the depths of ControlNet)

Though I suppose if history is a guide, if Stability AI doesn’t release SD3 someone else will release an equivalent… After a delay. The problem is the cost of research in this area is quite prohibitive so that delay could be years 😞

        depths of controlnet

Wat? You cant be serious. That is not deep, not by a long long shot.

Look at it as an opportunity to learn more beyond prooompt no work. Passion is a great motivator for learning!

I have watched Emad talk a number of times now and feel he really gets where it is all going in a way only a handful of other seems too. I have personally been wondering about when we would see a decentralized AI as the centralized ones certainly come with a lot of corporate baggage.

Same here. I really liked his conc3pt of these being digital public goods and the reality that open source/models make finetuning on private data possible for many when it otherwise wouldn’t be the case.

Honestly seeing him double down on decentralized AI gives me hope too. People like the hivemind and pedals.Dev folks have been doing incredible stuff in that space but there has little in terms of adoption despite the fact it addressed a major hurdel in overall adoption (needing massive GPUs to run models).

Don’t be too fearful of this kind of thing. Companies have had much worse circumstances with even greater losses of employees/executives and come out stronger as a result.

      Example: Apple.

So we can expect a number of bad leaders after this, eventually getting someone with a French accent to take over, run the company further into the ground, then the founder(s) will return (like the prophecy always said) and take over the world for like a decade.
