As someone similarly unfamiliar with Linux I’ll say I just made the move as well a few weeks ago and haven’t had any issues so far! Ive even started playing with wine and lutris to get games working, with a little tweaking I was even able to drag the files of an already installed game from Windows over to Linux and then get lutris to run it. I was pretty surprised to see it worked lol
Just a below average idiot that mostly comments for one of 3 reasons:
Catharsis, expressing exasperation over the general state of things.
Looking to make someone laugh.
Self deprecation.

This is exactly why I started using mint this weekend. I figured it’s time I get comfortable with Linux because even though microsuck says recall can be disabled, I 10000% guarantee once the windows 10 deadline passes and they get as many people over to windows 11 as possible we’ll suddenly see the “oops, it’s required now. Can’t disable it or you break windows!” message.

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•Google's Gemini AI tells a Redditor it's 'cautiously optimistic' about fixing a coding bug, fails repeatedly, calls itself an embarrassment to 'all possible and impossible universes'
19·3 months agoSorry folks, I have a pixel phone and Google Fi service so I’m pretty sure Gemini was trained on recordings of my daily mutterings to myself lol
Ahhh a fellow American I see.
Justice is “just us” and is exclusively meant to maximize misery.
As someone with extremely limited Linux experience I feel like I just read another language.
“Can’t wait for Frooperdum to be ready in meeperpeep. Possibly mean that literally as Momo is a laggy mess with Weeble trailing. Maybe goomervoobo with hermanin will be my first sprunk popple.”
:P
A humorous follow up response would be “sure, here’s another question: How the hell did they think you were ready to be utilized?”
The only correct answer: “I can answer that for you! The reason they thought I was ready to be utilized by the general public is because money!”

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•What it's like to be a developer in 2024
38·2 years agoI can’t wait for this to spread to unrelated areas!
Supermarkets maximizing profit: put ads everywhere and hide the most commonly bought foods!
Gas stations maximizing profits: unskippable ads on all pumps, plus the pump stops halfway to make you watch another ad.
Dating apps: oh… They already killed themselves. Swipe swipe swipe swipe. Hide messages. Hide likes. Reduse exposure to profile unless paid member.
I hate this future.
I think it’s probably better to have taken action as you’ve learned a lot. People like the person you replied to and myself “know” our limitations but then we don’t do anything so you’re 15 years more advanced in your knowledge and I’m 15 years stagnant no better than I was from the start.

183·2 years agoWhen it’s against the law to not maximize profit for shareholders we get into some really disgusting territory when you can’t innovate anymore and need to squeeze every dime out of everything.
What the hell is microsuck going to do in another 10 years? Infinite growth is more of a fantasy than working Communism yet we swear it will work somehow…
I think those people tend to make a lot of money off tips. There have been times I could get way more than you’d get from any paycheck a restaurant would ever be willing to pay, even with the laws changed for that sector, for “less” work. Depending on the place you work at you could have $300+ a night cash Friday-Sunday and that’s me going back to what I remember from 12 years ago so who knows what they’re able to get now.
I don’t even make $900 a week now in a psudo-managment position in a factory. Not that the $900 is consistent there for those in food service, I just think that’s one reason people would be openly resistant to the idea of changing how tipping works.

So thaaaaats what is in area 51… This whole time it was aliens with shotguns threatening web developers in order to keep the Internet running.
