Nix is my daily driver OS and the most stable experience I’ve ever had with any distro. But God do I fucking hate using Nix. Such a horribly documented experience for something so config heavy. Wtf were they thinking.

…I initially thought this as a joke but now I’m feeling interested in something that’s sort of a hub of services that can be installed with a click. Like via tteck’s (rip the 🐐) proxmox helper scripts that install LXCs preconfigured for the service. 🤔

You can get a setup going on whatever personal computer until you throw ~$150 on a mini PC.

The bricks this man laid paved the way for myself and many others to build their own home labs. He’s no doubt had a significant influence furthering this hobby out of being niche. The mfing 🐐

Spending 💰 is not the college student way.

There are issues with some games for sure. You’ll tab in/out at the wrong times (usually loading screens) and this guarantees Wayland will crash and restart the session. But at least it gracefully dies and comes back, never had it freeze on me.

EDIT: Playing MGS5 rn and the game froze when I tabbed, locked the entire system. Can’t even switch to a new tty so I’m forced to reboot.

I also frequent the discord server often for help with configuring, I have not seen/experienced any of this hatred talked about so much. The worst I’ve seen is bluntness in delivering a solution or just being ignored because I someone didn’t RTFM.

Hyprland is a wonderful piece of technology and I hope it continues to persist.
