I think what you’ve said is brilliantly put.

On windows the printer works perfectly
Well, now I’ve heard everything.
Great meme! Fedora user with that exact pourover! I dont love that pourover though, but my french press and my glass hario switch broke a year ago. Havent gotten to replacing them, so I just keep making coffee this way. My grinder needs cleaning and service, too. This is where I reveal I’m not on Fedora, but rather Nobara.
Wow Lemmy really does recommend the ideal path to all of its users doesnt it 😮💨 ok. ok.
You’re forgetting leverage. Open source is changing the way these businesses are forced to do business. And thats a start.
I stg it’s like people in this community never went outside and spoke to a real person before
This is just hateful.
A new adoptor doesnt have to deal with bug report hate comments though
I’d run some linux on a live USB. Try some of the FOSS software we use like Libre Office, Krita, Kdenlive. Check out the software app. Im a big KDE fan if it isnt obvious enough. Make your windows stuff more portable or interoperable. Get passwords into a database like KeePass, check out Markdown document making. Find out what Linux has for you and your computer interests.
Another alternative is to use FOSS software this is available on Linux and Windows. Get used to the software before the desktop itself. For me, dual booting was a lot of work and wasn’t fun. Maybe live booting for a session or two could be a way to go? I never tried that.
No doubt. LibreOffice is way better than the windows office sweet now. Seriously zippy fast and easy to use. And less stuff breaks.
Valve is actively funding alternatives to those anti cheats and also working with them to get Linux supported. Its just not happening overnight.
Gotta remember in the workforce - the youngest people in our workforce used an iPad or an android phone before they touched Windows. Those minds are gonna be way more open to alternatives.
I’m glad to be reading this. I just got a new AMD PC built and I’m installing Nobara right now. Why does everything wanna use Wayland when “use X11” is the first tip on ProtonDB? The rest of those things, I know I’m using them and I have no idea what they all do 🤣
Thin clients! $30, sometimes $15, for just as much CPU power as the Pi. More power usage, though. And ensure you buy the cables and SSD, check carefully what the seller is including or excluding from the shipment.
So what are KDE projects coded in?
Edit: https://develop.kde.org/
Page explains KDE frameworks, languages
Https://develop.kde.org/docs/getting-started/kxmlgui/
And then has guides on learning to code within this platform.
🤯
NGL I found this page about how new goals are chosen every 3 years and this organization has rocketed into Fascinating status in my mind.
Accessibility
Sustainability
Automation of internal processes
This list is incredible. But like I’ve had Krita on windows for ages, I had no clue it was KDE! I just looked at the page for Kdenlive and wow I see why it’s at the top of the list. Unbelievably deep software!
Wait KDE needs more money? That thing I use everyday? I’m signing up but I’m super new to linux could someone explain what KDE Plasma is exactly?
Edit: okay so it’s a desktop environment and also makes 200 applications that run on all linux desktops, and are standard with my OS so I recognize a lot of their names.
You could probably run your entire life only with programs built by KDE. They have chat clients, spreadsheets, encryption, file and software service, and like every useful basic tool.
Edit: wait what they MAKE Krita? You’ve gotta be kidding me. They just make it work on Linux, right?
LMAO.
Talked about linux in discord the other day and all the linux people were fucking annoying as shit about it
