It’s rock solid and the desktop is very close to what people coming from Windows would expect. It’s just a very good beginner distro, not necessarily something that more advanced users would choose.
Ironic, the fact that I hate change is the whole reason I ended up using Linux. I felt that Mint was closer to Windows 7 than 8.0 at the time.

No automated updates has be the biggest reason for me.

I had the exact same experience with Debian. The thing is, Debian is so many versions behind, it’s really no surprise that you thought it wasn’t ready yet. Try a less “stable” distro, you’ll be surprised.
KDE. It’s working very well with Wayland. I’ve been using both on my daily driver for a year now and it’s come a long way since then. It was still a bit rough in the beginning but now I can’t see myself going back. It’s pretty polished.
No worries, get well soon!
No, I just tried it. Ctrl + Alt + T opens a new terminal window, but Ctrl + Shift + T opens a tab within the window. These are the default key binds in Konsole, I’ve never changed them. It’s true that it also works to open the last closed tab in various browsers though.
Isn’t the default to open a new tab in Konsole Ctrl + Shift + T?

The Nvidia issue is overblown IMO. Yes, it used to be petty bad a couple of years ago with bugs and glitches all over the place, especially with Wayland. These days not so much. Just use the proprietary Nvidia drivers and you will have a solid experience. It’s honestly been over a year since I last had an issue that I could narrow down to Nvidia hardware.
Just make sure to read some reports from people with the same model of laptop. Laptops with very specific hardware can have compatibility issues.
