To be fair, if you do not care about the newest iteration of whatever Nvidia is up to (Frame Generation, RTX HDR, etc.) and don’t play games with kernel-level anti-cheat systems, there are really no issues with gaming on Linux these days - at least in my experience.

You’re absolutely right that Linux is still missing a lot of the features that are available on Windows. But the freedom you get with it is so worth it for me, even if my 4090 is bored most of the time.

I was in the same boat as you a year ago, but Windows got so bad that I just accepted that I could only play 90% of the games I want and had to check protondb before buying a game.

Also I wouldn’t use a distro that has GNOME as their default DE. KDE is (currently) superior in many ways that matter for gamers.

If I had to guess OP is probably talking about DLSS 3+ which is not supported on Linux at the moment. And what other reason is there to buy an Nvidia 30 or 40 series card if not for that?

I’ve recently picked up CP2077 again and let me tell you the experience is night and day. The gameplay is actually fun now and the story is also enjoyable since they got rid of the game breaking bugs. While the current version does not excuse the extremely subpar launch version I don’t think CD Projekt Red deserves a spot on your list.

A company that definitely fits your criteria is Blizzard. All the people I know that worked there quit and a lot of them told me about a huge brain drain that was happening which judging by what we know about the code of Diablo 4 sounds reasonable. At this point the company only exists because of nostalgia and even the gamer dads are getting more and more frustrated with them.

I would never use an ISPs router for my home network. It just causes so many issues that you can easily avoid by either using your own router directly or if that is not possible putting the device into “bridge” mode and using your own router behind it.

The devices the ISPs send out are usually the cheapest hardware imaginable and therefore introduce substantial unnecessary latency.

Where I live some ISPs also used to use tools that genereted wifi passwords based on the devices MAC address. While this is apparently fixed now, a lot of non tech savvy users still use these old devices that are basically open to anyone now.

To save even more money, they sometimes deliberately send out faulty devices (as in devices that drop connection frequently, restart for no reason, etc) which is just horrible.

I know these issues because I worked in that field and there are a lot more unfortunately…
