More like I come in to fix someone’s aging infrastructure and find a QuickBooks share with read/write everyone because people are too lazy to RTFM.

Looking at you quickbooks network shares…
RTFM? Nowadays it’s a YouTube video away. Freaking legos.
Drivers would be end users, Clients and project managers sometimes.
Think about it. Many drivers don’t know about checking the oil, maintaining proper tire pressure, tire wear, brake wear, air filters or topping off fluids.
I can do all of the above, but I’m nowhere near a mechanic. Just car savvy. So I could make suggestions to mechanics or engineers that look cool but are insane for functionality.
+1 for yt-dlp
Wow I got downvoted.
Yes I agree that launchers mentioned here are the online connected and required ones.
The old school launchers you could bypass by just running the exe directly.
The only useful thing launchers can used to do is adjust things like display settings that require reboot. Basically an INI config GUI.
This was more common back in the day probably due to the game engines. More less games require restart in recent years but that could be due to me playing more indie games and less AAA titles.
Edit: wow. Downvote much.
I have the same and only needed to dip into one time for my WiiManager app to check on my Wii library backup on a external HDD.
Support should be 5 years after End of Life or end of Manufacturing date.
Last PC I built was fractal and it was a dream. Amazing quality.
Can you clarify on how NixOS is great for selfhosting? I was going to do mint.
Not really it’s just another unfinished project.
I want to play with nextcloud, homeassistant and tabbyml
Y’all laugh but I’m getting into Linux and dusted off an old i7 laptop with 16gb of RAM. Slapped a $40 512GB ssd and linux mint on it to get into !selfhost@lemmy.ml!
…then promptly forgot about the laptop
Yeah I do this currently for my Windows installs. But Windows would freak out on OS updates and reinstalls.
I plan to redirect home on my next build
This is why I ask around! Haven’t heard that suggestion yet
What’s your recommended Linux distro for a Windows gamer to try?
I just started messing with linux on an old laptop. Tried VNC and got annoyed. Switched to xRDP and it works as intended but performance is lackluster on a local network.
Anyone have thoughts or tips?
Am I the only one who writes the Readme as I add features and do my commits.
Don’t leave your homework until the end and cram away just before it’s due.
Code every other day.
Code. Then review and document.
I also try to maintain my feature list in my Readme. Essentially my roadmap. Work my way down the list and write Code as features are added/updated.
Especially if you just need placeholder art you can use AI to drop in general ideas and later replace the art by a partner or contractor.
If you get a demo off the ground with “alpha” graphics and look decent you can market it better and maybe build a team.
I think a big benefit for this is also motivation. You no longer have a blocker due to missing art or issues with an artist.
Uhh… need a character design for the mayor. <<AI art placeholder>> ok now text… <<AI first draft dialog >> ok now code…
No more excuses!
Use case:
I want to set it up in my home so husband and 2 kids can access and share within GOG TOS.
Is there a feature to automatically download installers and patch files from GOG to the server?
Seems like a good feature to have to maintain an offline library.
