Firefox@fedia.io•Mozilla Firefox Is Officially Getting MKV Video Support
4·8 months ago??? what is this link lol
Tangential, but I’m kind of surprised they’re just using a wordpress.com blog for this (and have been for some time, evidently).
Just started using these and they are fucking fantastic for the way I use a browser

Firefox@fedia.io•Firefox Has a New Home: Mozilla Launches Dedicated Firefox.com Download Hub
2·10 months agoWhat they’re describing sounds different - not sure if it’s just a misunderstanding or something?
However, the site preselects the “Set Firefox as default browser” option during download. This means you might see prompts to make Firefox your default browser upon installation. To avoid this, simply uncheck the option on Firefox.com before downloading.
I can’t replicate being given the choice on the site itself when downloading

Somehow this phrase triggered a memory of this short comedy sketch: https://youtu.be/LButXcZ57pc
Tbh I thought it was a bunch of non-lemmy platforms (e.g., mbin which fedia.io runs - anecdotally it usually happens due to some types of edits not federating well), but if someone from infosec.pub (which runs lemmy) also had the problem then I’m actually not sure what the common factor is lol
edit: the common factor might just be instances that have blocked lemmy.ml, which currently includes fedia.io (my instance) and infosec.pub (the other commenter’s instance), though I’m surprised links to lemmy.ml’s hosted images are included in the block
Yes! It still maintains some features not in mainline Mastodon, which I guess is why infosec.exchange runs it

Searching for the phrase, documentation matches for Taiga so maybe you’re right!
I do some game modding, and sometimes have to hack together software to help with it, some of which ends up public.
One of my programs relied on the location of other, existing files and so would poke around at runtime to see where the user had launched it from, alerting the user if it was in a location where it wasn’t supported. If that happened, an interactive message box pops up with the title “UNSUPPORTED LOCATION” and text that says, verbatim sans my [notes]:
"Running [this program] from [unsupported] folder is NOT SUPPORTED, and is likely to produce errors. Run [other program] instead.
If you want to run [this program] from here anyway, type “I understand”.
You can’t skip or just “OK” the message to dismiss it, otherwise the program just immediately begins a managed shutdown of itself to prevent any of the aforementioned potential errors from occurring. I STILL had a user message me saying how making them type in “I understand” was a weird thing to make them do in order to use the program. Thankfully I think they’ve been the only one so far so it’s certainly not the norm, but the average computer user is also much less tech-savvy than someone downloading mods for a video game.
They are different, but to clarify, Linus Sebastian worked at NCIX (defunct computer parts / tech retailer), not NZXT (computer hardware manufacturer).

“Open source AI” is apparently the answer.

Hardware@lemmy.ml•[der8auer] Something is wrong here - Alphacool Apex Stealth Metal fan reviewed
4·2 years agoThis review brings up an interesting point, where they measured that at same-dB the fan sounds better because it has greatly reduced high-frequency noise (the second half of the review focuses a lot on this). I’d be interested in a [quantitative] comparison using something like sone.
Edit: NON-normalized spectrum analysis in Audacity (non-linear) and Spek (linear) using the +20dB audio clips: https://files.catbox.moe/h0hlvk.webp
Same thing but RMS normalized to -20dB: https://files.catbox.moe/38ugao.webp
These (particularly the normalized one) make it seem like the difference isn’t high frequency response (if anything the Metal has more lol), but instead reduced tonality.

Firefox@fedia.io•Firefox 120: Searching Tabs in the Address Bar Will Work Across Containers
2·3 years agoIs this what you’re after?
Settings -> Search -> Search Suggestions -> Untick “Show search suggestions ahead of browsing history in address bar results”
I guess you could also disable those suggestions entirely if you prefer.

It normally can (and yes I can see the entirety of this comment), maybe there was some kind of federation hiccup - new link makes a lot more sense haha
