NixOS has two main selling points:

1. I can declaratively manage my system. That’d probably the Thing you know about it.
2. but it also uses the Nix Package manager which allows you to install multiple versions of the same program. On Ubuntu, if I update bash from v4.6 to 5.0, it will replace /bin/bash and if any breaking changes were made, any program that has bash 4.6 as dependency won’t work anymore. On NixOS binaries are stored in /nix/store with a hash. So bash 4.6 is in /nix/store/hwnfuvshajdbgjajebskhak-bash-4.6 and 5.0 gets installed into /nix/store/638jsvusbhsuksvj76hwlsbj-bash-5.0 This allows us to have programs that depend on a old version of a software installed simultaneously with programs that depend on a new version of it.

i actually think NPM is more confusing. 1: there are practically always already finished Files for Caddy V2. Most of the times directly in the Repo of the Project. A lot of Devs use Caddy themselves. 2: NPM exposes a lot of Options additionally. This can confuse newcomers. With Caddy, all these extra options are invisible. you just write and see “reverse_proxy jellyfin” and that’s it.

If you are new i recommend “Caddy V2”

But: That’s you and not me. I don’t have the Time or Energy to maintain Projects for other people. My Projects are usually for my exact Usecase and that only. I don’t have the Energy or will dealing with people saying “doesn’t work for me” or “please update” or “please add [Feature that i don’t need]”

People who do work for themselves and share it with other people don’t do work for other people, big shocker.
