  • For project ideas, I think most of us start with a problem and learn how to solve it. But without some foundational knowledge, you may struggle to even realize what’s a solvable problem.

You should maybe start with something like Linus Tech Tips “techquickie” content. Look at tutorials for home servers and home labs.

Or just spin around with your eyes closed, and point at a random tech object in your home, then start searching for info on how that works. How you can customize it, fix it, break it, make your own.

Not sure how else to help you jumpstart what many of us have just been naturally doing our whole lives. Like… be curious. That’s the key actually. Curiosity.

  • I learned that the CUPS config on Mac, at least as of about a year ago, was set to save a copy of everything ever printed to an obscure directory on the machine. Was discussed in relation to setting up a secure encryption scheme where you print out your keys, wouldn’t want something like that just hanging out for any malware to come gobble up.

I forget the specifics, because I’ve had autoupdates turned off for a while now, but I think it would make you set “active hours” and then would do updates outside of your active hours. Regardless of you actually using your computer at the time. And, back in the day, my sleep schedule was non-existent, so there was no time that was completely safe for doing updates.

There was a time when you could postpone, but they got rid of that, or limited it… eventually you’d end up with an unstoppable update. It seems microsoft is trying tons of things to get people to stay up to date, but none are satisfying to everyone.

I prefer my method, which isn’t easily accessible to all, manually updating periodically. Sometimes I’m a month or 2 late, but the worst of the worst vulnerabilities ends up news and that’ll get me to update sooner.

Best option for someone who’s only ever used Linux on servers, and who plays at least 1 game that does not run on Proton bc of EAC?

Split my m2 for a Linux partition and dual boot? Vm windows in Linux?

If dualbooting, advice on not accidentally overwriting my primary drive (again)

I already know I should use arch, right?
