And then just sit silently and spin around and around on the chair for 15 minutes.

I thought it was from the 90s or something. Hold on let me go change my diaper from the senior kind to the toddler kind.
Hey, I have it on good authority that apparently users get confused and freeze up like myotonic goats if there’s more than three icons in the panel.
Notifications are annoying and should only be used for really important things.
What do you mean doesn’t work for mobile devices “at all”? It works in many ways. If you have a VPN client on your phone, just disable it while you’re connected to your home wifi.
That depends on the setup. I use a VPN 24/7, but it’s configured on the router so most of my devices are routed through the VPN at all times while at home without them having to run a VPN client themselves, and can also take advantage of DNS-based ad blocking. But yes, it’s not a setup for everyone.
Very good question and one that I can’t answer. However I would check to see if your router supports QoS. If it does you might be able to ger the router to prioritize important data such as video playback, gaming, video calls etc. I’ve done that in my router and it made it so much easier to live with 10 Mbit.
Back in my day we had an abacus and if you wanted it to do something you had to do it your damn self. And that worked JUST FINE.
Great news! I can’t stand Kirigami and convergent apps. I hope new Amarok becomes a thing.
I just switched to Linux. This’ll be an interesting ride.
There are so many old and good UI traditions that are being broken lately, especially by Gnome, Windows and Apple, but even KDE are doing some of the things. It’s extremely frustrating and I don’t even want to know what a pain it’ll be for me to use computers 15 years from now. I can only hope KDE will keep the old stuff as options, but future, younger devs probably won’t think it’s necessary because it’s so alien to them.
But it’s the second best thing about KDE! My themes are constantly thoroughly fucked around with.
Also, my upgrade to Plasma 6 went borked but I’m sure that’s pure coincidence. 🙄
While you can follow across the Fediverse, no matter the platform, not all kinds of cross platform follows make sense imo. I personally wouldn’t follow Lemmy stuff from my Mastodon because it can get really floody. I also wouldn’t generally follow Mastodon accounts from Pixelfed, or Lemmy from Pixelfed. It’s really great that you can, but sometimes it’s better to just make an account on the specific platform instead.
I run Plasma 5 on a 2nd gen i7 laptop and it’s idling just fine and quietly most of the time with no such spikes unless I have several apps running, including a web browser with a plethora of tabs.
I finally found my use case for activities - switching between work and personal stuff. Having virtual desktops isn’t enough to separate the two for me, but activities does the job really well. Would miss the feature if it goes the way of the Dodo in the future.
Yeah I understand it’s a lot under the hood, but people seem to anticipate it like it’s the best and most exciting thing since the second coming of sliced bread. I kinda don’t get it. But it’s good that it’s coming along. I probably won’t even notice a difference.
There’s a cheat button called sudo snapper rollback in OpenSUSE, it can be had in other distros as well.
