Literally none of this is true lmao
Something something Linux something something Windows bad something something proprietary
Got into an argument about this once. The other person insisted that if I wipe my hard drive and reinstall, that I’m a pathetic moron who doesn’t deserve to use a computer.
In fairness, it’s usually better to fix things so you can learn, but dang they were toxic.
I mean I’m a senior engineer and I mostly handle escalations and high priority client issues, but my work is mostly break/fix
I believe Plasma 6 includes a new dock.
Considering all of my theming and several of my apps have broken today, and that I’ve had two crashes… I’m glad they took longer.
Yay all of my extensions and themes are broken

linuxjourney.com is a good resource
Arch is viable because the AUR is full of converted debs and package managers keep things up to date. Most distros have a method to install this kind of software but honestly universal out of the box flatpak support can’t come soon enough for consumer distros. We need canonical to give up on snap for Ubuntu desktop
It’s much faster than opening an application. Extremely lightweight and keyboard operable. Insanely intuitive.
Select item. Hit space bar. Use arrow keys to view next or previous item. Hit space bar again to close it.
You should test out Apple’s Finder. It’s packed with features like this that save hours of people’s time every month
Wayland is a windowing system, sort of. It’s a replacement for X11. It changes how graphics are done on Linux machines, and has a more modern and secure approach which offers better performance and efficiency. It notoriously doesn’t work very well on NVIDIA, because NVIDIA for a long time didn’t allow the community to write drivers for Linux and didn’t want to put effort into making it work correctly. This has changed recently but there are still some headaches with certain desktop environments or window managers.
This is a video from 2 years ago that tries to explain Wayland. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1BoZnekkyM
It’s a lot more usable now than it was when this video came out though, I run it every day.
Wait— doesn’t sway require you to enter —my-next-gpu-wont-be-nvidia
to launch?
I didn’t think sway would ever work with Nvidia.
Interesting, what GPU and DE did you use? Distro? I was able to get things running smoothly on my GTX 1070 with Wayland and KDE Plasma.
With NVIDIA, you also do have to set up DRM (Direct Rendering Manager): https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/NVIDIA
Outdated meme, NVIDIA has had good Wayland support for over a year now
Fun fact. You don’t have to type the -Syu part with paru; using the command alone is an alias for it already.

It’s like yay
but more modern, written by one of the people who originally worked on yay
Hello Jazzy, it’s nice to see you here. Hopefully your GNOME issue gets sorted quickly!
