As much as I absolutely hate PewDiePie with every fiber of my being, this is probably the best thing that could happen to Linux’s mainstream popularity. That dude’s got so many followers that it’ll get a lot of people interested.

Honestly, the secret is not being a publicly traded company. All the others have to make the shareholders happy while steam just does steam. If the line doesn’t have to constantly go up you can pretty much do whatever you want as long as you’re still making profit. And if what you’re doing is already working you don’t need to add gimmicks or advertisements to milk it as much as you can just to appease the shareholders.
I miss Windows 7 and the early days of Windows 10. Windows 7 was definitely peak Windows and I can’t really remember any complaints I had with it. It did everything I needed it to and very rarely ran into issues. Gaming was great and the bloatware was minimal, at least compared to now.
Nowadays Windows is full of bloatware and shitty decisions. Gaming has been better on Linux ever since I started using it a couple months back. I’m playing games like the Final Fantasy VII Remake and No Man’s Sky this past week and they’ve been running better on Linux.
That’s one of the reasons I chose arch. Because of the difficulty i can’t take shortcuts or be lazy and have to actually learn. When I tried something like Pop_OS I definitely enjoyed it but didn’t really learn anything because it was all done for me.
What’s so funny? Like I said, I’m new to Linux.
Very dumb question, but I’m kinda new to Linux. Do I have to manually update that or does it just do it when I update packages and the like? I’m on Arch btw.
TommySoda@lemmy.worldto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•you're no longer needed now GTFO of my computer39·10 months agoI’m in the process of this now. I haven’t used Linux in like 15 years so I’m starting slow with my laptop. My goal is to be free from windows on my desktop and laptop before I have to go to Windows 11. I have to use Windows 11 at work and it’s fucking miserable. I can understand some of the changes from a personal usage standpoint, but from a work related one there are so many features that just make productivity worse. I’ve had to change shit in the registry like 7 times just to get some quality of life features that they changed.
TommySoda@lemmy.worldto linuxmemes@lemmy.world•Microsoft is one of the greatest promoters of the Linux desktop372·1 year agoHonestly, I love windows 10 and windows 7 even more. I have had very little complaints with them and I miss 7 every day. But when support runs out for Windows 10 I’m switching. It seems every single day they come up with another stupid plan or “feature.” Whether it’s AI that’s barely helpful or forcing me to use their software and services, I’m exhausted with the obnoxiously aggressive tactics to get me to use them.
Already dual booting. Haven’t used Linux since 2010 so it’s been a bit of a learning curve. But now I haven’t booted into windows for about 2 months now and it’s been great for gaming.
