v1.0.3 Latest Fixes
Fixed an issue that led to opening a new Desktop App window when users clicked on the Update button of the Calendar Drawer in Mail. Uninstalling the application on Windows removes user data from the application data folders. The application is placed to a correct application category on Linux. No need to refresh the other application (Mail or Calendar) to apply changes when switching themes.
You can try to follow the build instructions like mentioned in another comment but be aware that you are trying to build for a platform which has as far as I can see no official support compile instructions for the software. YMMV.
Yes. Haiku is quite light weight, small and snappy. One drawback is that it has not yet multi user implemented (everything still runs as root! But so do old DOS flavors :-) ) but imho it is fun to play with and check which software packages it has (it has several emulators packaged).
You want to try something interesting but want to dual-boot. That last bit could be difficult or “impossible” but using a VM or running from USB stick are options.
On routers and modems the DHCP range is usually not allocating the full range for IP addresses to hand out to devices. If I were you I would configure the pi-hole to have a static IP address on the pi-hole itself so it will be independent from your router’s DHCP server. For example let’s say
With that approach you will avoid IP address conflicts and the pi-hole should be fine. If you’re using systemd on the pi-hole that is maybe easiest, here an example :
Another option is to use nmtui from NetworkManager
Well I never used command line in 30 years of Windows.
That’s 30 years of using closed source software from strangers (Or do you have many good friends at Redmond WA USA ?) :-)
It’s pretty much a requirement for Linux that you copy and paste random commands you don’t understand from strangers on the internet.
Maybe decades ago it was. Nowadays that’s not a requirement as there’s GUI applications for a lot more things than before. And as a Linux user I simply find it much more convenient and faster to share some commands with another person than making screen shots and creating a howto of a few pages or making a video. Also documentation has improved. For the average Linux user the Arch Linux wiki is a nice resource, even when not using Arch Linux.
UNIX™ is a trademark name (Think of e.g. IBM AIX, HP-UX, SunOS). Linux and BSD are Unix alike. I believe that Apple has made an effort to be entitled to call an OS of theirs UNIX, not sure whether it’s Darwin or something else.
Indeed. “GNU’s Not Unix!”
A pinned post at the top for everyone to see ?
Thanks for the update and the hard work. You all rock!
Thank you all.
😄 No worries. “Help is on its way”. I am sure that Microsoft will release the source code of Vim 0.1 optimized for Windows very soon! /s /j
Okay.I’m not going to argue about this but here’s a description : https://packages.debian.org/bookworm/lxd
The Amazon story is really old and Ubuntu did hear the critical voices and reverted the change. The terminal ads can be annoying on servers but you can turn them off.

If you want to throw dirt on Ubuntu, let’s talk about Snaps and the messy Snap Store and how the current Ubuntu site looks like (not desktop user friendly really), and what they did to LXD
I hope you too learned alot :) but if I may, I would switch from AdguardHome to Pi-hole.
+1
If you only access your local domain name inside your LAN and via VPN you can also use Caddy to have local SSL certificates https://caddyserver.com/docs/automatic-https#local-https Have not tried this myself yet but I like the idea of not getting any warnings in browser, and this is safe as long as the Caddy CA root certificate is safe.
On Reddit: “Windows is being enshitified. How can we cope with it?” On Lemmy: “Windows is being enshitified. Good thing we’ve moved to Linux”
I think I see a pattern here.
Interesting. I guess it has to do with what you are used to and what feels comfortable.
Linus Torvalds once made this remark :
When you say ‘I wrote a program that crashed Windows,’ people just stare at you blankly and say ‘Hey, I got those with the system, for free.’
If I think back of the days that I was using Linux and I saw friends and family using Windows95 that had just launched (with a massive hype, and using a Rolling Stones song to promote it) the Blue Screen of Death was fairly normal for folks. And they lived with it, and they continued to live with it because they thought that they had no choice, and they were incredibly happy to not having to use DOS anymore. Later some of the folks I knew after having their Windows computer flocked with Windows viruses they bought a Mac, and as a matter of saying, lived happily ever after. Not everyone can afford Macs though. And not every “normie” is ready to use Linux.
Well, yes, that transphobic post was very bad yesterday :( It was one person and the poster got a 30 days community ban on lemmy.world (check the modlog). The copy of the post was gone on lemmy.world but was still visible on lemmy.ml later, downvoted a lot.
In the Lemmyverse for self-hosting Immich looks very popular (despite their warning : The project is under very active development. Expect bugs and changes. Do not use it as the only way to store your photos and videos!)
The old skool Piwigo might do for you ? https://piwigo.org/
