FWIW ive used Google for about ten years for email and have never modified my DNS records. They seem extremely stable.
It’s basically a Gmail account with a custom domain.
Hosting the software is only part of the problem, and not the hardest one from my experience.
The great spam catcher of Microsoft and Google are incrediblely dense and arcane, mail will often be rejected or swallowed from small mail servers.
How does it handle push notifications? If they come from googles push service then they’d be exploitable as well.
Depending on how old it is it may be a good space heater.
