it’s based mostly on old Instagram which was way more photography-focused than it currently is.

It’s also basically used as a image hosting place for artist on other platforms on the fediverse as many servers on the microblogging federated platforms do not allow or severely limit multimedia uploads. (same thing happens with PeerTube and Funkwhale and videos and audio respectively)

I don’t think peertube could ever be a replacement to youtube, at least not to the “new” youtube which main goal is commercial content creation. Peertube cannot pay the content creators the way youtube does, because, for ones, it doesn’t make any money from adds nor is owned by a corporation.

What peertube can aim to, is to be like the older youtube/dailymotion/etc were people posted videos of the things they liked, without monetisation or influencers. Because it will never fully attract influencers.

Well the fediverse works. The fediverse is what internet was meant to be, before corporations sized it and made it the nightmare that centralised social media is. The “metaverse” is just Zuckerberg’s desperation to maintain his decadent model of social media afloat.
