opensnitch is a nice GUI firewall that has a bit of an annoying learning curve if you are not used to networking, but is otherwise very good.

38·6 days agowait, so it was chrooting into the server you have access to is what i’m getting from this? maybe a malicious actor was trying to steal data from your work?
because it doesn’t make much sense to me that a regular joe would be targeted by such a sophisticated-looking attack, with them watching you in real time for signs of compromise.
do you happen to have a lot of bitcoin? work with sensitive stuff? is your roommate secretly working for a three letter agency?
the best part is that they didn’t even need to innovate, they just had to not ruin it
i’m still in awe i can literally just play videogames on linux.
fedora: bazzite is pretty much fedora silverblue without redhat. debian gnome can look and feel similar too.
cachy: you can make any linux system look any way you want. chances are you can probably simply change back to the adwaita theme.
suse: not all systems play well with a given machine, sad fact of life.
mint: take your time with it, it’s also a good system.
1: yes.
sudo apt install gnome-software-flatpak-plugor something like this. you could probably install any of them you like in a similar way.2: about the same as every other system with the same kernel, if cinnamon supports unredirection like the other DEs.

Linux@lemmy.ml•LFS drops support for System V, citing workload problems and upstream dependencies on systemd
1·11 days agowhat’s the problem with wanting feature parity with windows? linux does lack some management features and standardization that could help it quite a lot.
i’m ok with them selling linux support for corporations, as long as they contribute their additions back to us because this is what made linux as good as it is in the first place.

1·12 days agoand you address that by finding the people who also want it done and deciding how you are gonna find the solution to your problem. there is definetly not a shortage of groups forking of old DEs and maintaining them for years.
the people behind systemd found someone to pay them for it, and seem to attract most of the people and companies interested in working on it.
my suspicion is that there just ain’t enough people interested in other systems.

1·12 days agoi’m not actually serious. you’d have to organize with the people who also want it done, like the systemd people do.

Linux@lemmy.ml•Which distro is closest to 'GUI/UX for everything, absolutely no CLI' approach like Windows or Mac + and just works (ie passes LTT Linux test)
1·13 days agoand it usually does, but software discoverability is still bad on linux

guess i’m boring then
