I once took over a project. The guy left in bad terms. Took off with the credentials of his virtual machine, on which was the latest build of the project. Tried to download and build on a different machine. Did not work. Nobody knew how to. Never found out, fuck that noise I left within a month. Oh, and they were starting to use git. Fifteen fucking years, they had been selling their software. No versioning at all.
I took over a project recently. I asked for updating instructions… as in “once I make changes, how do I push to prod?”
They gave me instructions on how to update angular and dotnet packages.
Mother FUCKERS.
I spent time digging around the code, setting up my dev env, and then I noticed dev and prod had a slight difference.
“yeah, we gave you the wrong branch”
Fuck.
I had to dig around and find out how they started the docker on prod and then I could replace the .dll and restart the container. It was not fun.

I recommend you give it back to them
No can do. It’s for someone who I owe big to, and the company that created the software has gone out of business.
Unless you have a position open for a full stack dev/SDET.
Well, I could, but then you’d owe me big too, which puts you in a terrible place, so, you’re better where you are.
