I was surprised when I just bought a brand new workstation and it had PS/2 ports.
I was just in a position to buy a top of the line video card. Even thought Nvidia still outperforms AMD at the top end I never even considered them an option.
Yes, but you better be installing arch on your toaster by next week.
second to Emacs, of course.
It’s an age old Linux tradition. We argue about window managers, init systems, sound systems, and anything else we can. Often it’s because people have built a hacked together system based on what used to work for them. Relevant XKCD
If you’re definition of simple is just clicking things until you get the response you want then you might be correct.
You’re either memeing, and you use Arch btw, or you are a decade behind. Most PC users surf the web, print a PDF, and possibly look at pictures from their phone on a larger screen. All of those can be done from a vanilla install of most Linux distros. Before you say “yeah, but windows comes pre-installed on my pc” congratulations you’ve discovered why monopolies are bad, but also I can install Linux on my hardware before you’re done watching the “please wait while we are setting up your computer” and “just a few more moments” screens that give you absolutely no information about what is actually happening.
Their systems update regularly, they both use opensuse. I’ve never remoted in. I could probably figure out how to if i needed to, but that isn’t even in my current skill set. No matter what people think Linux is stable and trouble free if you leave it alone, and just use your computer, unless you have nvidia. Fuck nvidia.
Counterpoint. I used to get constant tech support calls from both of my parents until i switched them both to Linux. Now if i get a call from either of them more than twice a year it’s an oddity, and that is usually to install new hardware like a printer which they couldn’t install on windows either.
I hate that, because when i call tech support i have to listen to them walk me through the basic steps before i get to the parts i need. I try telling them I’ve already worked through basic troubleshooting, but most of them are reading a script for every idiot that calls.
That’s because everyone jumped in the ARM hype train, and are now figuring out how shit the platform really is.
